We released this film with the mission to raise awareness about the importance of educating girls, and to drive resources to our non-profit partners who are working on the ground around the world.
In addition to a “call-to-action” at the end of the film for audiences to give to the Girl Rising Fund, audiences worldwide continue to use Girl Rising screenings as a fundraising opportunity, both for the Girl Rising Fund and for other non-profits in their local communities.
Girl Rising donated a portion of proceeds from licensing and screening revenue to the Girl Rising Fund between 2013 and 2014. Since then, every cent from licensing sales goes to further the work of our ongoing global campaign.
We are currently working in India, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We also working with teachers in US classrooms and we have thousands of supporters around the world who we communicate with and support in their own grassroots efforts to change the world for girls.
What does the money actually pay for? It pays for our staff to do our work and for things like new translations and adaptations of the film. It allows us to provide the film so partners may use it in their own communities, and importantly allows us to lay the groundwork for new Girl Rising campaigns in new regions.
