The leader of the world’s second largest nation sat down with the Girl Rising India team back in June!

Our team and Girl Rising Ambassador Freida Pinto met with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss girls’ education and his “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save a Girl, Educate a Girl) initiative. They also discussed bringing Girl Rising to India and how we will work together to share stories to lift up India’s girls and get more girls into schools.

Everyone has a role to play when it comes to raising awareness around the importance of educating girls, especially in places where girls face many barriers to education that boys do not. This is why building strong partnerships across sectors is key. We are adding the government of India to a list of already existing important partners - USAID, HP, STAR TV, Intel, Save the Children and World Vision to name just a few.

True to the Girl Rising mission, we’ll start by sharing the power of stories. We translated the Girl Rising film into Hindi so we can spread our message to millions across India. It will air on national television at the end of August. We are also working to reach mothers, fathers, community leaders, boys and girls themselves in their own communities by working with non profit partners on the ground.

Finally, we want you to stay involved. Get exclusive updates about what we’re doing to get girls into classrooms in India by joining our mailing list.
